The Philippines’ largest airline, Cebu Pacific (CEB) will add two extra flights to Naga on August 20, 2010 (Friday) and August 23, 2010 (Monday), specifically for the Ironman 70.3 Philippines.

On those dates, Cebu Pacific will fly a total of four daily Manila-Naga-Manila flights using an ATR 72-500. The airline also flies thrice daily from Manila to Legazpi, and every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from Cebu to Legazpi.

The lowest possible ‘Go Lite’ fares for said flights are as follows: Manila-Naga (PHP 648), Manila-Legazpi (PHP 888) and Cebu-Legazpi (PHP 1,288). Passengers with check-in luggage will just add P100 upon booking.

According to the official website, the Ironman 70.3 Philippines will be held at the Camarines Sur Water Park Complex (CWC) on August 22, 2010. The event will feature a 70.3 mile triathlon where participants will swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles and run 13.1 miles in Camarines Sur.

Last year’s inaugural Ironman 70.3 Philippines had 409 individual participants, representing 23 countries.

“This international event is a great boost to sports tourism in the country, and we are doing what we can to promote it. These extra two flights with Cebu Pacific’s trademark low fares will add much needed seats to and from Naga for the participants and supporters of the Ironman event,” said Cebu Pacific VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

Flights to Naga use a small aircraft so passengers cannot check-in bicycles. But Airbus aircraft is used for Legazpi flights, and can carry bicycles.

Iyog said that when checking bicycles in, handlebars should be fixed sideways, pedals removed, tires deflated in a hard shell container designed for shipping. They can also be placed in a bicycle suitcase.

The third largest low-cost carrier in Asia, Cebu Pacific flies to the most number of destinations and routes in the Philippines, to the most ASEAN destinations and routes from the Philippines, and is the only low-cost carrier flying to all three major North Asian countries of Japan, China and South Korea.

Cebu Pacific has been a constant sponsor of the Sports Tourism Conferences presented by the Department of Tourism in Laoag, Cebu, Manila and Cagayan de Oro. It is also the only airline flying to Siargao, the surfing capital of the Philippines.
