Gokongwei-owned airline Cebu Pacific (CEB) has donated a shell DC-9 to the Aviation Security Group (ASG) of the Philippine National Police for its anti-terrorist and other drills involving airport situations.
Cebu Pacific ceased using its DC-9 aircraft when it completed its refleeting program in 2007 with a fleet of brand new Airbus aircraft.
Candice Iyog, vice president for marketing and product said, “Instead of just discarding the mock-up DC-9, we decided to donate it where it can be used to improve airport safety. We feel that this donation will be able to help our aviation security prepare for unfavorable situations.”
Cebu Pacific now has a fleet of 16 brand new Airbus aircraft and 1 ATR 72-500 turbo-prop aircraft. It recently took delivery of another 179-seater A320 aircraft and is expecting the arrival of its second ATR aircraft in the coming weeks to support its continued network expansion.
Now in its 13th year, Cebu Pacific continues to have the youngest fleet in the Philippines. It flies to 12, soon to be 15 international destinations, with the addition of Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, and Kaohsiung. Cebu Pacific also operates flights to 21 domestic destinations.
